26 Jun Coleridge Artists Exhibit Unity at Hornsey Library
We have taken part again in the annual Schools Exhibition at Hornsey Library as part of Crouch End Festival.
Children from across the school have interpreted the theme ‘Unity’ in a variety of different ways. Central to the interpretation is the notion that the world is united in music. Each country has its own variety of musical instruments and this is the case, not only today, but also through time and history.
So in our ‘Mountain of Music’ sculpture you will find instruments from the present day mixed together with those from Ancient Egypt and also with those from far and distant lands and cultures. The children have used a variety of tools and techniques to create these pieces, often starting with recycled materials and found objects.
The canvas triptych was designed and created by a small group of Year 5 and 6 children who drew around their bodies on the canvas to show ‘Unity’ in the shapes they created together. They were particularly interested in creating body shapes that might reflect different moods and movements. They were then inspired by the artist Sonia Delaunay in their painting of the piece, so they used colours of their choice to fill the shapes.
Children throughout the school have contributed to the board of studies of musical instruments – using paint, collage and drawing.
