03 May Election Fever Hits Coleridge
In anticipation of the upcoming London Mayoral Elections, children at Coleridge have been gearing up for our own school mock election. Year 5 and 6 children have been hard at work developing policies for our four parties: Aspire, Motion, Impact and Focus. They have created manifestos, slogans, logos and have media and campaign strategies ready for our big election on Friday 6th May. In preparation for our big leaders’ debate on Friday morning, speeches have been written and Hornsey and Wood Green MP, Catherine West came to school to offer some vital advice on getting their message across to the electorate.
Over the coming days, Years 2-6 will be hearing speeches and discussing policies concerning the environment, housing, jobs and welfare. All children will register to vote, and we will be using the Transferable Vote system to mirror the real election, and to help them understand the importance of democratic involvement. A massive congratulations to all parties for what is proving to be a mature, considered and thought-provoking campaign. Keep your eyes peeled for the result early next week.
