29 Mar Winston Churchill Public Speaking Competition
On Wednesday the 15th March, a group of Year 6 children represented Coleridge at the ‘Winston Churchill Public Speaking Competition’. The competition was held at Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s birthplace.
Coleridge’s speech was based on the statement: “In war, it does not matter who is right, but who is left.” The team’s speech discussed how feeling that you are morally right can be a huge motivator to succeed. They also argued that doing what you think is morally right is more important than simply winning. The speech was delivered inside the palace to an audience of invited guests, including relatives of Churchill.
Although Coleridge did not manage to win the competition, the judges commented on how confident the Coleridge speakers were; that they had a clear and engaging speaking style and successfully handled some difficult questions that were posed. Well done to Alex, Scarlett, Aurora, Lily, Freddie and Saanvi.
