23 Mar Year 6 Children Win Public Speaking Competition
On Tuesday 14th March, a group of Year 6 children took part in a public speaking competition at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, and won! The team of six delivered a speech and answered questions on the subject of Winston Churchill and his achievements. Their specific question was:
“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see. Does this prove that History should be the most important subject taught in our schools?
The Coleridge team beat off competition from some of the most prestigious prep schools in the country and accepted the award from the Duchess of Marlborough. A huge well done to our public speaking team who all worked incredibly hard in preparing and delivering such a fantastic speech. Huge thanks go to parent volunteer, Deborah Crewe, who helped the children prepare for the competition.
The six children were selected to represent Coleridge after taking part in an internal public speaking competition here at school. During this event, Year 6 children researched, planned and delivered speeches on a wide variety of topics including gender equality, animal welfare, pollution in cities, Brexit and the refugee crisis. The standard was incredibly high and selecting a team to represent Coleridge at Blenheim Palace was a difficult task.
We look forward to taking a team back to Blenheim next year to try and retain our public speaking trophy!
