16 Nov Artwork Inspired by Trinidadian Textile Artist Althea McNish
Children at Coleridge have been studying the artist Althea McNish. Born in Trinidad and living in Tottenham since the 1950s, she became the first Black British textile designer to earn international recognition.
Children used her work as inspiration to create their own designs using a range of printmaking and oil pastel techniques. The children were so inspired by Althea McNish they created their own life-sized model of Althea, dressing her in an outfit modelled on her own designs.
