22 Oct Black History Month in Pictures
October was Black History Month, and at Coleridge we have been celebrating the achievements made by some of history’s Black heroes, as well as learning more about the history of Black African people across the world.
We enjoyed a whole school assembly run by the organisation ’Teaching Drums’, and following this, Years 4-6 took part in workshops where they were taught African drumming and dancing as well as thinking about racism and stereotyping. Infant children have been looking at African stories and all of the children have been involved in producing some lovely artwork inspired by African artists.
Our work does not end in October though. We are lucky enough to belong to a diverse community at Coleridge, and we will be celebrating the diversity of children, staff and parents throughout the whole year. We’re looking forward to a series of assemblies and lessons focussing on many different races, cultures and religions as the year goes on.
We always welcome parents into school that may be able to offer something to our diversity curriculum, whether it be cooking, dancing or simply talking about your own heritage and background. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you are able to offer any time or expertise.
