08 Jul Changes To Assessment And Reporting
You will soon be receiving your child’s school report and will notice that the way in which their attainment is measured is different from in previous years. This is because the government has now scrapped the old system of National Curriculum levels (2c, 2b, 2a, 3c, 3b, etc.).
Instead, children in Years 1 – 6 will now receive a mark statement to indicate how well they are doing in each subject area relative to what is expected of them at that age.
These statements will be as follows:
- Working below age-related expectation
- Working towards age-related expectation
- Working within age-related expectation
- Working above age-related expectation
- Working significantly above age-related expectation
In addition, children in Year 6 will also receive the results of the SATs tests which they undertook in May. This year, because of the introduction of new, more rigorous tests, and because of the removal of National Curriculum levels, the SATs results will be reported differently as well. Your child’s results in each test will now be reported using a scaled score between 80 – 120. A scaled score of 100 indicates that your child is working at the expected national standard.
It is important to note however, that a score of 100 is not the national average, but the national expectation. For information about how your child’s score compares to the national average, please click here www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-key-stage-2.
