24 Sep Mr Choueke’s Newsletter – September 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the first term of the academic year. It has been wonderful seeing the children settling back into school life so quickly. Also a warm welcome to all our new families who have started with us this term. We really hope that you will be happy throughout your time with us.
Welcome Meetings
For all new Reception parents, we are holding our annual new parents meeting on 28th September at 7pm in the hall on Coleridge East. The meeting is an opportunity for you to find out more about the Early Years at Coleridge and how and what your children will be learning this year.
For all those parents of children in years 1 to 6 who have just started with us, I would like to invite you all into school for a meeting on Thursday 7th October at 9am. The purpose of the meeting will be to welcome you all to the school and to give you an overview of Coleridge Primary School and how we work.
I will also be holding my annual Head teacher’s talk for all parents where I will be talking about the school, our, hopes aspirations and priorities for the up and coming year. The talk will take place in the West hall at 9.15am and again at 7pm on Wednesday 3rd November.
Playground Works on Coleridge West
We are very excited about the works to our play space on Coleridge West. The aim of the works is to safely open up more of the play space for our children offering more and exciting opportunities for them to experience. As always with building works there have been a number of delays to the programme, however we are hoping that the project will be complete by the end of this half term.
School Priorities for the Year
Each year the school has three main areas for school development that we specifically focus on. This year we will be focusing on developing Reading across the school including the teaching of phonics. We also are having a focus looking at the wider curriculum, specifically looking at the teaching of music, history, geography and RE. The final focus for the school this year is looking at Diversity, Equality and Inclusion across the school. Action plans are all currently being drawn up and I am talk planning to talk more about this in my head teacher talk on 20th October.
School Life Post Covid-19
During the pandemic, we recognise that there may be many of you who have not had many opportunities to come into the school or get involved as you would have liked.
Together with Coleridge Families (the school’s PTA) we are thinking through how our any parents can reconnect with the school whilst keeping covid-19 at arm’s length and the school community safe. Many ideas have been mooted, if you have any suggestions please do get in touch with either the school or Coleridge Families. More details on this to follow.
Parent Consultations 19th & 20th October 2021
There have however been changes to school life that we had to make and despite the national situation, easing up we will be sticking with. This term we will be running parents evening online again. From a safety perspective, we feel this is more appropriate. The system allowed us to ensure that appointments do no run over and that we are more able to keep to time. We also know that there are those parents who appreciated being able to log on from home and from work. There were a few teething problems with the technology and parents logging on, we are working to ensure that this is not the case next round. To make sure that the system is available to as many parents and carers as possible, we’d like to hear from you about your experience attending the last online parent’s evening, which we held in summer term last year. Please leave your feedback by clicking on the following link.

Rainbow Class
This September we launched a new provision called Rainbow Class. The class is primarily for our high need SEND children. The class runs each morning and offers exciting and bespoke learning and support for those children who need it. The class is based on Coleridge East in both the old music room and in the dance studio. Feedback from the children, staff and parents has been extremely positive.
Clubs
We have a range of exciting before school clubs and after school clubs back up For a full list of the clubs we have on offer this term. For more information, please visit the school website or click on the following link https://coleridgeprimary.net/learning/extra-curricular/clubs/
School Street
The school streets on Haselmere and Waverly Roads are now operational; please do remember that you are not able to drive down these streets from 8.30 to 9.30amd and 2.20 to 3.30pm. Both streets are now a lot quieter at drop off and pick up, but please note some cars are still driving up and down theses streets during restricted hours, hence, we ask t still to be careful when crossing the roads.
Road Safety
We will be talking to the children about road safety over the next term, however please can you also remind your children to be careful when crossing the road, and especially on the crossing outside the front of the school.
I look forward to seeing you around and about this term. Should any of you need to contact me directly please do so using head@coleridgeprimary.net
Best wishes
