18 Nov Year 3 Trip to The Globe Theatre
As part of our learning about Tudor times and the plays of Shakespeare, Year 3 visited the Globe Theatre. As we have been learning about play scripts in English, our workshop and tour were all about Macbeth. The children learnt about the history of the building and what theatres were like in Shakespeare’s time.
Did you know that when the original Globe burnt to the ground a man’s trousers were set on fire? They had to extinguish the flames with the only thing to hand, a bottle of beer!
Later, we did some excellent acting in workshops and explored the play as well as the tricky Shakespearean language. The children really enjoyed the tour and workshops, a particular highlight was that some classes went on stage to act out the famous dagger scene!
