School Play

Each year around Christmas time, we produce a school play

At Coleridge Primary School, we believe in nurturing learners for life and providing a holistic educational experience which go beyond the academic. One of the highlights of our school year is our annual school play, a vibrant and engaging whole school event that showcases the talent, creativity, and teamwork of our school community.

Every year, all 840 children at Coleridge Primary School are involved in our school play, making it a truly inclusive and community-driven event. Historically we have written and performed our own versions of a Midsummer Night’s Dream, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bugsy Malone, Aladdin and more recently, A Christmas Carol (aka, A Tale of Two Scrooges).

Our Year 6 children take on the main acting roles, learning, rehearsing, and performing. Children from all other year groups participate in a whole class dances, adding a fun and energetic element to the play.

In the run up to the play children in their art lessons design and build all the props and the backdrop, enhancing the visual appeal of the performances. Children also showcase their musical talents by participating in the choir and orchestra during the play. The children also gain valuable experience as stagehands, assisting with lighting and sound.

Parents also play a vital role in the play, supporting with choreography, costume design, makeup, and rehearsal assistance.

The play is performed three times during the performance week, including a special show for peers and two shows for parents and carers, drawing a full house each time.

The school play fosters teamwork, creativity, confidence, and resilience in children, providing them with a platform to shine and excel. Every child participates and contributes to the success of the play, instilling a sense of accomplishment and pride in their abilities. Annually the play not only celebrates existing talents, but also introduces new experiences to children, opening doors to the world of arts and performance.

At Coleridge, the annual school play is more than just a performance; it is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
