The School Day

Our school day is six and a half hours long, beginning at 8.50am in the Infants and 8.55am in the Juniors.

Infants

8.50am – 3.20pm
Total school week of 32.5hrs

Juniors

8.55am – 3.25pm
Total school week of 32.5hrs

As of September 2024, we changed to a 32.5hr school week, in line with DfE expectations for all schools, with the start of the school day now moved to 8.50am in Infants, and 8.55am in Juniors. Parents should drop children off at the classroom door or drop off point five minutes before this, at 8.45am and 8.50am respectively, to allow their child to get into class, hang up their coat and bag, and take their place for the start of the day. Children should not be left alone on the school premises before 8.45am.

Children should be in their places at 8.50 (Infants) and 8.55 (Juniors) ready for the start of each school day. The first half hour of the day is a very important time during which the teacher will introduce the day’s work. Being late will put a child at a great disadvantage. Any child who arrives after the start of the school day should report to the school office to be signed in, before heading to their class.

There is a morning playtime of 20 minutes. The school is part of the scheme run by the DfE where infant children receive a piece of fruit a day. Junior children can also bring a piece of fruit from home to eat during morning playtime. Children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water which can be refilled at school and is available to them in the classroom throughout the day.

At the end of the day we ask that children are collected on time. It is distressing for a child, when everybody else has gone home, to be left at school. We understand that problems do arise, but if parents telephone us, we can reassure your child that you are on the way.

As part of our ongoing commitment to active travel and reducing our impact on the environment, a School Street is in operation on Haslemere and Waverly Roads between 8.30 – 9.30am and 2.30 – 3.30pm each day. Only residents and disabled badge holders may enter or exit these streets by car during these times. We encourage everyone who can to walk, scoot or cycle to and from school.

Dogs are not permitted on school grounds under any circumstances. We have several children with allergies, so for their safety, we kindly ask that you do not bring dogs of any kind onto the school grounds.

Children should not bring valuable items such as jewellery or mobile phones into school.
