Learning In The Forest

5 March 2024

Children in Year 4 have been enjoying their weekly trips to Queen’s Wood for forest school. As well as playing lots of games, drinking hot chocolate and enjoying being outside for the afternoon, the children have been learning lots of new skills.

They thought about how the woods could provide them with materials to create houses for small creatures, whether imaginary or real. As part of building their team work, they put on blind folds and were guided through their surroundings by a trusted friend. They used their imaginations to create stories to explain why trees had strange shapes and features.

Most recently, the children learned how to tie a clove hitch and a reef knot; useful skills in general, but particularly important for making rope swings!
