Matilda Magic: Coleridge Takes the Stage

2 December 2024

We’re in the final stages of preparing for this year’s much-anticipated whole-school production of Matilda! The school has become a vibrant hub of creativity, as the children pour their energy into every aspect of the show, from art and music to performance.

By the end of this week, every child at Coleridge Primary will have contributed to bringing Matilda to life. During art lessons, they’ve crafted props and designed the stunning backdrop that will set the stage. Across the school, children have been rehearsing lines, perfecting dance routines, and fine-tuning songs. Our orchestra and choir are adding their magic, ensuring the performance is one to remember.

We’ve also had fantastic support from parents, who’ve been helping with costumes, lighting, sound, and coaching the children in their acting.

By the end of next week, more than 800 children will have performed Matilda three times in full costume and makeup. These sell-out performances will be enjoyed by proud audiences of parents, carers, grandparents, and siblings. We dare say no West End production could rival the scale and spirit of our cast and crew!

Performances will run from Tuesday, 10th December, to Friday, 13th December, with two shows daily.

Our annual school play embodies Coleridge Primary’s core values: caring, creative, aspirational, inclusive, and resilient. The children have shared how much they love working together and supporting one another throughout this experience. For many, it’s an unforgettable journey, offering a sense of unity and a chance to shine. For some, it will be their first time performing, and they are embracing the opportunity with pride and excitement.

We can’t wait to welcome you to experience the magic and joy of Matilda!
