The 2024 Coleridge General Election

2 July 2024

Not unlike Rishi Sunak, we have announced that there will be a General Election at Coleridge on 3rd July.

Our Year 6 children have formed four political parties and the winners will be given a budget of £200. Their task is to create a manifesto outlining how they believe this money should be spent, whether on school initiatives, local community projects, or national charities. Each party will have the opportunity to present their manifesto during a series of assemblies, allowing the entire school community to learn about their proposed policies.

Following the presentations, all students will have the chance to cast their votes, mirroring the democratic process of a general election. The winning party will then be responsible for implementing their manifesto promises and spending the £200 accordingly.

This learning experience will not only educate our children about the democratic process but also foster critical thinking, public speaking skills, and a sense of civic responsibility. This project aims to teach our children about the principles of democracy and the electoral process in a hands-on, interactive manner.
