In their Art lessons, year 4 have been looking at the wonderful garden that surrounds Prospect Cottage, which was Artist and Film-maker Derek Jarman’s home in Dungeness. After drawing the cottage and garden in their sketchbooks, the children experimented with watercolours and blocked out compositions in washes of colour.

They looked at some watercolour Artists’ techniques to help them with the new media. Then they got to experiment with pen and ink to create some textures and add detail to their compositions. Van Gough’s ink drawings were really inspirational for this part!
