10 Jul Black Lives Matter 500 Word Story Competition
UPDATE!
Congratulations to Malaak in Year 4, who has made it through to semi finals for her year group! Read her story below.
500 Words is the world’s largest story-writing competition for children. This year, following the death of George Floyd in police custody in the USA and the subsequent protests that have been held across the globe, children were asked to write about themes and issues emerging from the Black Lives Matter movement.
Finalists and winning stories in the competition will be announced by 500 Words on 13th July. Four semi-finalists in each age group will be chosen from the stories they receive. The judges will then determine two finalists and the eventual winner of the competition on Friday 17th July. However, some of our children who have entered the competition have kindly sent their story to school and we are proud to share them with you. Please have a read of the five stories written by children from Year 1, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6. Well done and thank you to all of the children who have shared a story – you have shown how thoughtful, empathetic, passionate and wonderful you are!

Tell Them by Henry, Year 3
Black Lives Matter by Bethany, Year 5
