Thank you for your interest in Coleridge Primary School.

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in Coleridge Primary School.

Coleridge is an Outstanding four-form entry primary school that welcomes children from both Islington and Haringey.

At Coleridge, we value children’s happiness and emotional wellbeing above all else, children often talk about Coleridge as being like a second home. They speak very highly of the caring staff team and of the exciting learning, which fills their days.

Looking for a new school can be extremely daunting and often confusing, and there is a lot of information to digest. Therefore, whether you are looking for nursery, reception or in-year admission, we run tours for interested parents on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Tours are designed to give parents a real insight into life at Coleridge. Feedback from parents who have visited us all say how informative and useful the tours are. If you are interested and would like to book a place on a tour, please phone the school office on 020 8340 3173.

If you would also like to find out more about Coleridge, you can also follow us on Twitter @Coleridgen8, Facebook @Coleridgen8 and on Instagram at @Coleridgeprimary. Have a look at our introductory video also!

  • Coleridge has been great for my child both educationally and pastorally. Teachers are warm and the ethos of the school is no child left behind.

    Year 5 Dad

  • Coleridge is an outstanding school in every way. It is academically very successful with a huge emphasis on wellbeing and creativity. The teachers are inspiring and want the best for your child – we couldn’t have hoped for a better primary school.

    Year 5 Mum

  • I never thought children would miss school in the holidays, and race into the classroom with joy and curiosity each morning like this but they do here!

    Reception Parent

  • What a fantastic start to a child’s school life - Reception at Coleridge was stimulating, inspiring, safe, happy and fun.

Play is an important part of learning in the Early Years, as it is through play that children first learn about the world around them. In our indoor and outdoor play spaces, our students learn by exploring colours, materials, sound, shapes and much more. And it's fun too! We believe art and music are a crucial part of your child's emotional and intellectual development. We have dedicated art and music teachers that deliver lessons in the classroom, and in our art and music rooms. Reading is an important skill, as is being able to critically analyse what you have read. As well as that though, here at Coleridge we aim to foster a lifelong love of reading for pleasure. Students have access to two school libraries, and are encouraged to make full use of them. As well as whole class music lessons, we also offer instrument tuition, both inside and outside of school hours. We also run a school orchestra, school choirs and students perform music during the school play. One part of staying healthy is keeping moving, and what better way than through dance? Our students learn to dance and move around as part of normal lessons, and more advanced teaching is offered by expert providers after school, in one of our two dance studios. The highlight of our Autumn term is always the school play in December. The majority of the cast are taken from Year 6, but everyone has a part to play, be it music, dance or creating the scenery and costumes. Sport and physical activity are very important at Coleridge. We have several teachers who specialise in teaching PE, and often enter inter-school championships. Ask to see our trophy cabinet! As well as our school halls and playground, we also have a Multi-use Games Area, the MUGA. This astroturfed space allows us to play traditional pitch games such as rugby, football and netball in a permanently marked out area. It's not all play here though, we have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. We score above average in national tests on both, and are following the Maths Mastery programme to help raise our standards even higher. Science helps us understand the world around us, and we aim to give our students the tools and critical thinking skills to do just that. As well as regular lessons, we also have visiting speakers and demonstrators, as well as taking part in STEM events with other schools. At Coleridge, we embed ICT and Computing into the curriculum, and the classroom. As well as teaching ICT as a subject, resources such as laptops, iPads and Chromebooks are available to use in class to enhance teaching and learning during other lessons. Computers aren't just for typing documents though, and we try and use the best of every technology that is available to us. Recently, we've been using iPads to create videos using green screen technology.
