20 Jun Journeys Exhibition
Coleridge Primary are pleased to
announce the opening of an exhibition in collaboration
with other local schools….
“Journeys”
The exhibition is a part of The Crouch End Festival, comprising a selection of artwork from across all the year groups. The pupils at Coleridge have interpreted the theme ‘Journeys’, thinking particularly about the journeys of Charles Darwin on his boat, ‘The Beagle’.
The exhibition piece is intended to represent Darwin’s study where he might have written a journal while sitting on his favourite chair… possibly surrounded by specimens from his travels stored neatly in glass jars. Some specimens might have even escaped and started journeys of their own across his books and furniture! You will find an eclectic approach to his collections, from objects of natural history and stuffed animals to artefacts from places that he has visited around the world, including African masks and the very important globe. You might notice that Darwin had two bottles of ink (apparently he wrote so much that he would have needed two!).
Our children have also created a piece on canvas (with papier mâché additions) focussing on the history of Alexandra Palace Theatre. Our scene shows the theatre as it might have been in Victorian times, with a variety of theatrical acts performing all at once on the stage. These include a magician, a performing tiger, and a levitating woman who is also supporting the magician’s hat while several doves fly out of it! You might also see a variety of performing dogs. Of course, the stage acts have a musical accompaniment from a small but fabulous orchestra!
The exhibition will be held in the Original Gallery at Hornsey Library and will run from Wednesday June 22nd to Thursday 30th June. (Please check with the library for viewing times).
