22 Feb Sports Report – Spring 1 2016
A short but successful half term saw success for both our athletes and gymnasts.
The second week back saw over 20 of our top sports children competing in a heat of the Haringey Sportshall Championships. Competing against eight other schools, Coleridge emerged clear winners with 219 points, beating second place Rokesly by 22 points.
A fortnight later, the finals saw us line up against the other heat winner. The team finished in fourth place, only 19 places behind the winners, Rhodes Avenue. Special mention must go to Jack Bonfield and Joseph Ridge in the Long Jump, and Saoirse Barron and Amber Smith in the Speed Bounce, who gained first places in their events.

A week later it was the term of the gymnasts. On the Thursday a team of six from Years Three and Four competed in a three part event, covering the vault, prescribed routines in body management, and floor exercises. Out of a field of thirteen schools, they emerged triumphant in the team event, with Ruby Taylor and Freya Jensen taking first and second places in the individual girls’ event, while Paolo Shkreli won the boys ’competition.

The next day it was the turn of Years Five and Six. Covering the same three disciplines but with increased complexity, our team once again emerged victorious, beating 15 other schools. In the individual, Saoirse Barron, Nina Robinson and Harper Gallagher took all the first three places, with Ollie Reed winning the boys’ competition.

The half term also saw our dance club compete in the regional finals of the Great Big Dance Off, and our cyclists take part in time trials in Finsbury Park.
