29 Mar Year 2 At The Ragged School
Last week, as part of our Victorian topic, Year 2 visited the Ragged School Museum, where we learnt all about what life was like for children living during the Victorian period. We found out about the jobs they did; what their homes were like and the chores they would have to do.
We also experienced what a Victorian classroom was like and took part in a Victorian school lesson. The teacher was very strict and made sure that we were silent, sat up straight, kept our elbows off the desks and looked forward at all times. The teacher got particularly cross if we whispered or didn’t understand the instructions given. We did handwriting, spelling and algebra lessons using a slate. Left-handed children were even made to write with their right-hand, as they did in Victorian times!
