26 Apr Mr Choueke’s Newsletter – April 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the summer term; we are so pleased to have all the children back in school and are very excited about the coming weeks. The children have all settled back in well and are enjoying being in school and being out in the sunshine.
Covid-19 Update
Whilst the country is positively moving forward with the road map out of lockdown, we are asking that you continue to follow all our Covid-19 guidelines until we inform you of any changes. It is our aim to keep the school fully open and healthy all term. Please ensure that you are keeping a safe distance from others on your way to and from school and that you wear a mask while on the school grounds. As you are aware Covid-19 lateral flow testing kits are available for all parents to test themselves twice a week and we would ask that as many of you are testing yourselves regularly –please see previous emails about how to access the tests.
Volunteers
A huge thank you to all those of you who have been able to volunteer, supporting us with lunch duties, hearing readers or helping out across the school. We very much appreciate all that you do and you make such a difference to the children and the running of the school. If you have not done so already and you have any spare time and would like to help out in and around the school, please do get in touch with us.
BAME Review
A huge thank you to the parents who participated in the BAME review last term. Marva Rollins, who ran the review, was extremely complimentary about the school and the work completed so far around being an actively anti-racist school. Marva has sent us the draft report and it will be finalised next week; the report summarises the feedback she received from children, parents, staff, SLT and governors. Marva’s recommendations will feature in our action plan and we will be in touch with more details.
INSET Day – Monday 5th July
We will be having one more INSET day this academic year on Monday 5th July – during the morning there will be training for all the staff on conscious and unconscious bias delivered by Marva Rollins and afternoon will be follow up work from the training linked to teaching and learning for the new academic year.
The Mayoral Elections 6th May
Despite all our efforts to remain fully open over the next half term, Haringey have insisted that we continue to be used as a polling station. Therefore, we will be closing all four Reception classes on 6th May; the rest of the school will remain open as usual.
West Playground Redevelopment
We are continuing to work in partnership with Haringey to develop the playgrounds on Coleridge West. We are very hopeful that work will begin over the summer holidays.
Coleridge Voluntary Fund
At the start of the school year, we wrote to the school community explaining the financial position the school has found its self in and as a result we launched the Coleridge Voluntary Fund. We are immensely grateful to the families that signed up to make regular contributions or made one-off donations and for the messages of support and understanding we have received. This has made a huge difference to the school.
We have used the money raised so far to pay for both curriculum development and site development. We appreciate that in the current climate; many families are still facing difficult financial circumstances and want to reiterate that the fund is voluntary. If, however, you would still like to contribute, we would be extremely grateful.

The School Play
Every year, as you may or may not be aware, at the end of the winter term we would normally have put on a play, which involves the whole school. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, this was not possible this year. I am very excited to announce that at the end of the summer term we are planning to reinstate a school play. Year 6 teachers and children are currently in the planning stages. We are thinking carefully about how the play will work safely and in line with Covid restrictions. Once we have firmed up our plans we will let you know.
I am extremely excited about the new term and what is in store for us all as a school community. Should you need to contact me at any point, please do so using head@coleridgeprimary.net
Best wishes
