At Coleridge we have a Year 6 peer mediation and support programme for all children in the playground, called the Bus Stop Buddies.
There are 30 Year 6 Bus Stop Buddies each year, with six on duty outside each day at playtimes. They act as role models, helping support both Infant and Junior children if they are upset, lonely or have friendship issues. Before taking on this important role the Bus Stop Buddies work together in a six week training programme which helps develop the skills and tools they need to support others.
Our Bus Stop Buddies are an inspiration to many children at Coleridge and help others feel more secure and comfortable in the playground. It is a highly valued role in the school, and as one of this year’s applicants said, “It would be a privilege to be a Bus Stop Buddy.”
